2004 IDEAS Boston Speaker: Human Species Continuing to Evolve, Could Change the Face of the Olympics

Juan Enriquez, managing director of Excel Venture Management and coauthor of Homo Evolutis, told the Boston Globe that science could soon allow humans to augment themselves enough to become a new species. The 2004 IDEAS Boston speaker suggests that this could change events like the Olympics.

“We’ve always thought if only you work hard enough you can be president of the United States or an Olympian. What if it turns out that — at least for the Olympics — that’s not the case? You do have to work really, really hard, but you also have to have a certain set of genes. How do we want to deal with that knowledge?” Enriquez says.
