2011 IDEAS Boston Speaker Close to Commercializing Electricity for Mobile Devices

July 18, 2012

WiTricity Corp. CEO Eric Giler told the Boston Business Journal Sunday that as soon as next year, the company could commercialize electricity that can flow through the air for mobile devices.

Richard Martin of Colorado-based Pike Research, which last week issued a report saying the wireless-power market will likely grow from $4.9 billion this year to $15.1 billion in 2020, is quoted in the article as saying WiTricity “definitely ha[s] the potential to be a key player in wireless electricity.

According to the article, the technology works by drawing electricity from power sources such as an outlet and converting it into a magnetic field, which is then turned back into electricity for the object being powered.
