2005 IDEAS Boston Speaker Named MacArthur Fellow

September 22, 2011

Congratulations to 2005 IDEAS Boston speaker Roland Fryer, who has just been named a 2011 MacArthur Fellow, the so-called “genius awards” that come with an unrestricted five-year grant of $500,000.  Fryer is the Robert M. Beren Professor of Economics at Harvard University.  His research focuses on issues such as the racial achievement gap, the causes and consequences of distinctively black names, affirmative action, the impact of the crack cocaine epidemic, historically black colleges and universities, and “acting white.”   Since IDEAS audiences heard him, he has become the youngest African American to receive tenure at Harvard.  We’re proud to say that we recognized Professor Fryer’s ‘genius’ early on!
