Meet 2011 IDEAS Boston speaker Dr. Claudius Conrad

Dr. Claudius Conrad holds an MD, a doctoral degree in stem cell biology, and a doctoral degree in music philosophy from the University of Munich. He is an author of influential articles on the effects of music on patients, their relatives, and physicians. His research has received positive recognitions by the national and international media, including the New York Times, Boston Globe, ABC, NBC, BBC World, NPR, National German Radio and Television, and others. As Director of Music in Medicine of the Department of Surgery and the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Dr. Conrad is an internationally recognized expert, a visiting scholar to prestigious institutions around the globe, and an editor of important journals in this field. In 2006, he was one of the first non-U.S. nationals to join the surgical residency program at MGH. He completed a research fellowship at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute in June 2009. He has also contributed numerous publications and book chapters in the field of stem cell science and is a recipient of several research awards, including the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Leadership Award, the ACS Excellence in Research Award, and Steinway Artist 2009.
